Scotland has a unique structure for Game fishing. Each river, or in some cases group of rivers, has a District River Board which is charged with the protection, enhancement and conservation of salmon and sea trout stocks within that district.

Proprietors contribute to the cost of running their local Board and are free to use or let out their Fishings as they see fit. (Subject to compliance with the Statutory Instruments or local agreements affecting that river). Anglers are required to hold a valid permit to fish on that proprietors section of river but do not require a Licence to fish from any other Authority.

Within the Ythan District much of the River is let to Season Ticket holders and clubs. There is often a waiting list for Club or Season Ticket holders and further advice can be given by individual Proprietors or The Board. Tel 01651 851664
